Before this review, I’d like to say that we’re so sorry to all of those people in Aurora, Colorado, and our prayers and hopes are to their families and friends, and to those in the hospital.

Is this as good as “The Avengers” or “The Dark Knight”? This is the Buzz About Movies’ review on The Dark Knight Rises.

After The Dark Knight was highlighted by a brilliant performance by Heath Ledger, and Heath Ledger alone, the latest and final installment in the Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, is a better all around film. While no actor blew my socks off, everyone was really good, including Christian Bale, who never matched up to other actors in the previous 2 films. This film is 2 hr. 44 m, so pretty long. The film was slow at times, but the whole finale sequence was better than The Dark Knight or Batman Begins. Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, he was really great and relevant, unlike I thought he’d be. SPOILER ALERT: John Blake’s real name is Robin Blake. Also, I was surprised by Anne Hathaway. She was extremely good, better than the Catwoman they played in Batman Returns. The ending of the trilogy was also really good, as even the villains aren’t just cold-hearted like Scarecrow and Joker. Bane has a history and a love. Also, what about Liam Neeson? They advertise it like he’s a major component in the film, but he is only in one short 30-second scene! Before the movie, I was wondering why Nolan didn’t call the film The Dark Knight Falls, but Rises as the appropriate word. Also, Tom Hardy was really good as Bane, taking up Heath Ledger’s iconic performance and trying to duplicate it. Great job to Hardy. WOW was the first word I said afterword. It was scary, yet a bit funny, and super cool! Much better than The Dark Knight!

CHRISTIAN BALE plays Bruce Wayne, and did a really good job! In the film, Wayne is still recovering mentally and physically with his battles from the Joker and losing Rachel Dawes, the girl he loves. Wayne has to get back into the Batman suit to fight a new criminal, Bane.

MICHAEL CAINE is very good in the film, as Alfred in the film is very persistent about Bruce not doing Batman again, but just going away, marrying, and having kids. Caine’s performance was very good and heartwarming.

TOM HARDY was REALLY GOOD! His character is in love with SPOILER ALERT Talia Al Gaul, and all of Bane’s actions come off of SPOILER ALERT Ra’s Al Gaul’s desire to destroy Gotham in the first film, Batman Begins.

ANNE HATHAWAY was really as good as Tom Hardy! Hathaway brought feeling to a dark character, Selina Kyle, who is very human in this film. Everything she does she does of human emotions, fear, hope, and more.

GARY OLDMAN was once again super as Jim Gordon! When Gordon is not in the hospital in this film, Oldman is super good! In the film, Gordon’s wife has ran away with the kids, and Gordon still remembers Harvey Dent’s crimes and his threatening to kill his family.

JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT was BETTER THAN EXPECTED! John Blake was probably my favorite character in the film, and partly because of Gordon-Levitt’s acting abilities. The character is moved to a Police Detective, but he has had a hard road as his mom and dad both died. He had been bouncing from foster home to foster home, and no one understood what he had been through. Then, at the end of the film, the character reveals his true name SPOILER ALERT Robin Blake.

MARION COTILLIARD was great, and really relevant to the story. Her character, Talia Al Goul, is disguising as Miranda Tate throughout the film, and is Bruce Wayne’s love interest in the first 3/4 of the film.

MORGAN FREEMAN plays Lucius Fox, and Freeman, as always, plays Fox with gusto. The character, CEO of Wayne Enterprises, has made a light energy system that could blow up all of Gotham (right up Bane’s ally) and no one refuses Bane, not even Lucius Fox.

CILLIAN MURPHY is in the film! Murphy plays Jonathan Crane once again, this time judging verdict or death on an unfair trial where all the good guys have to go. While Murphy doesn’t draw his Scarecrow outfit in the film, I hope he does soon, in the 2015 Reboot of Batman.

Here’s my overall rating of the film:
