This Spider-Man is amazing in every sense of the word. This is The Buzz About Movies’ review on The Amazing Spider-Man.

When Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi ran out of creative ideas for a Spider-Man 4, the franchise looked down. Years later Sony was in some trouble and thought of bringing back Spider-Man, but rebooted. THEY got an idea, and hired Raimi, Maguire and the usuals. Sadly, Raimi, Maguire, Kristen Dunst and Rosemary Harris all quit the production, so Sony hired (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb. They got Social Network highlight and Golden Globe nominee Andrew Garfield to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone to play a new love interest from the comics: Gwen Stacy and 2-time Oscar winner Sally Field to play Aunt May. They decided to do Spider-Man’s origin story, with the villain being the Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans. Let’s get reviewing: The emotional depth to this film was incredible, more emotion than any other movie I’ve seen. This is better than the entire first Spider-Man trilogy combined (OUR RATINGS: Spider-Man: 9/10, Spider-Man 2: 8.8/10, Spider-Man 3: 6/10). If you thought the first trilogy was good, you will be blown away by this! The origin story idea helped the movie, and I REALLY enjoyed it. Andrew Garfield was so much better than Tobey Maguire playing Spider-Man. Maguire’s interpretation was very soft, mellow, but too soft and mellow. Garfield is soft and mellow, but stronger and has a personality to his character Maguire doesn’t have. It was like Rise of the Planet of the Apes in the way that they were dong complex science that almost no one understands, but you understand it in a weird way. Rhys Ifans was also better as the villain, Emma Stone better as the love interest. Everyone was better. There was not a single boring part in the film. It was action-packed and I think what helped the film is the absence of the love triangle. That gave the first trilogy a confusing element, and they just demolished it in this. This was also funnier, quirkier, and just plainly better.

Here’s my reviews on the cast:

ANDREW GARFIELD killed! He was WAY better than Tobey Maguire, and this is a great new actor many people have yet to notice, as he didn’t get an Oscar nomination for his work in The Social Network, and lost the Tony Awards to Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher). Borle deserved the Tony, but my point was Garfield has yet to be seen for what he is. The next Tom Cruise.

EMMA STONE was really good! She was very strong as the female lead, and much better than Kristen Dunst was in the first trilogy. She is overrated, but she wasn’t cheesy in this film like I thought she would be.

RHYS IFANS was great as the Lizard! He was no Loki or Evil Queen, but he was great opposite Andrew Garfield. He wasn’t as good as Garfield, but still really good!

Here’s my overall review:

STORY: 10/10

ACTING: 9/10

VISUALS: 10/10
