Spider-Man-MOVIE REVIEW

Sorry High School Musical 3, you’re bumped back ANOTHER week. You’re reading the Buzz About Movies’ review about Spider-Man.

The beloved comic Spider-Man was a hit with fans, so it was soon turned into a movie starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and directed by Sam Raimi. I thought the film was good, and for that time (2002), the effects must have been superb. The Green Goblin was by far the best part, though. While his mask looked weird, he and Spider-Man carried the movie, with Kirsten Dunst just along for the ride as Mary Jane. The same goes for James Franco. While I liked Mary Jane, James Franco’s character seemed unnecessary. The romance between Mary Jane and Peter Parker seemed cheesy at most times. I really liked Peter’s aunt. It made me sad to think of her (such an old woman) being attacked by the Green Goblin. One of my favorite lines of the whole movie is when she is telling Peter about when he was six and Mary Jane moved in next door.

My favorite part was when Peter didn’t know what his powers were, and everything was going haywire for him. Even though, the Green Goblin was my favorite character, by far. I seem to always like villains in stories. (I would love a Green Goblin movie!) Problem is, sometimes villain stories aren’t popular. The latest trilogy of Star Wars was mostly about Anakin Skywalker turning into Darth Vader, and audiences didn’t like it. (I loved it!) In fact, in a few weeks we are going to be doing a Star Wars movie breakdown. (Now, back to Spider-Man!)

Here’s my reviews on the cast:

TOBEY MAGUIRE did a good job playing the iconic character Spider-Man, but could’ve been better. I can’t wait to see if he improves in 2 and 3.

KIRSTEN DUNST was okay when she wasn’t cheesy, but personally, she was cheesy a whole lot. A lot of the film centered around the Peter Parker/Mary Jane love, so a better performance from her would have made the film (personally) better.

JAMES FRANCO plays the son of the Green Goblin, Harry Osborn. He was one of the best performances in the movie, besides the Green Goblin. But, (and I say this with Maguire and Dunst as well) there wasn’t much depth in the acting, a flaw most of the time in blockbuster hits.

WILLIAM DAFOE plays Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. Best performance in movie by far! He added depth to the tough character of the Green Goblin. I would love a Green Goblin movie starring William Dafoe! Totally! There was nothing bad about his crazy, yet terrorist performance from William Dafoe.

ROSEMARY HARRIS plays Mary Parker, Peter’s aunt. It was sad when the Green Goblin hurt her, because her character is so old. I once had a Grandmother that old, and it was so sad whenever something happened to her. She was very good. Certainly one of the better performances in the film.

CLIFF ROBERTSON plays Ben Parker, Peter’s uncle. His character is about a 60 year old man, who you care about at the beginning, but not really at the end, due to his lack of screen time.

Here are my overall reviews:

ENJOYMENT: 9/10

STORY: 7.5/10

TECHNICAL: 8/10

VISUALS: 9/10

IMPACT: 4/10

PACING: 10/10

VALIDITY: 9/10

MOOD: 9/10

RE-WATCH 8.5/10

Overall, I give this film a: 9/10 (Awesome).
