Snow White

Look, everyone loves Snow White. The classic 1937 animated movie (Walt Disney’s first) not only saved Disney Studios from going broke, but is now a timeless classic that we all still love. It was also nominated for an Academy Award (before the Animated Film category came along)! For years, Disney crafted out excellent animated films (Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Bambi) until Walt Disney died and Disney was left on its own. Disney went up and down in the years until 2003, with some hits and some downsides, as Pirates of the Caribbean became a solid success. But more importantly, Universal Studios took Peter Pan and made a live-action remake directed by PJ Hogan. The film starred Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) as Captain Hook and new-comer Jeremy Sumpster as Peter Pan. The film did well with critics and audiences and the world saw Jeremy Sumpster for the first time.

In 2010, Disney thought about repeating the success of that movie, and hired director Tim Burton (known for dark adaptations of stories and dark original work) made a sequel after Lewis Carroll’s sequel to Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass. The film starred (guess who!) Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Mia Washionka as Alice, Burton’s wife, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. The film was funny, dark and the back rounds were full of excitement. The film won two Academy Awards and so Universal and Relativity Media saw the success, so they both scheduled Snow White films for the same year, 2012.

Universal got Kirsten Stewart (more known as “Twilight gal”) to play Snow White, 2011 break-out star Chris Hemsworth (more known as “Thor”) to play the Huntsman and Academy Award winner Charlize Theron to play The Evil Queen. The film is about the Evil Queen banishing Snow White to the woods with a Huntsman, who ends up training her how to fight.

Then, Relativity Media thought about a beautiful family film, Mirror Mirror, with Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen (much better casting choice than Charlize Theron) and also cast Lily Collins (WHO THE HECK IS THIS GIRL?!!!!!) to play Snow White. Then, they cast Armie Hammer (J. Edgar, Social Network) to play the Prince, while Universal cast Pirates of the Caribbean 4 star Sam Clafin to play the Prince. The film is about the Evil Queen mad about Snow White being prettier than her, so she banishes her to the woods, where Snow White meets up with a gang of dwarves in the forest who teach her to fight.
