The Hunger Games-Behind the Scenes

As soon as anyone put down the book, The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, they all knew, including myself, that it would make an excellent movie.

So, Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins (author of the book) decided how to bring the book to life.

The film can’t get an R rating, which would drive off younger fans who love the book, so it will have to cut out some gore and (less naked people) to get a PG-13 rating. They have also bumped up the role of President Snow (president of the Capitol) and added Seneca Crane, a young show producer, who probably produces the Hunger Games.

The cast is five-stars. To start, we have Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence playing the main character, Katniss Everdeen. Teen comedian John Hutcherson will play Lawrence’s fake love interest, Peeta Mallark. Liam Hemsworth (by any chance related to Chris Hemsworth?) as Katniss’s best friend in her District, Gale Hawthorne. Woody Harrelson will play her drunk trainer, Haymitch Abernathy. Elizabeth Banks will play Haymitch’s partner, Effie Trinket. Stanley Tucci will play the interview host, Caesar Flickerman. Lenny Kravitz will play Katniss’s hair and costume designer, Cinna and Wes Bentley will play Seneca Crane and with Alexander Ludwig as Cato, Amanda Stenberg as Rue and Willow Shields as Prim Everdeen, Katniss’s younger but fragile sister.

The film’s soundtrack also has some major hit stars such as: Kid Cudi, The Civil Wars, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and even Grammy-winner Taylor Swift. Her song is already a mega-hit and is available on iTunes.

The book had a long-lasting effect on us…will the movie as well?

Anyone who has read the book knows that it deserves a good if not great movie, and by the way, they already planned a 2013 sequel, Catching Fire after the second book in the author’s trilogy.

Enjoy and see The Hunger Games on March 23, 2012!
