The new Batman

Hello. 2012 has just begun, so here are my top 10 movies I WANT to see this year.

1. THE AVENGERS. This film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Runner as the film’s plot combines almost every Marvel superhero. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is nervous due to Thor’s brother Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) is attacking the earth. Fury teams together a group of superheroes: Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Runner), Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth), Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) and the HULK (played by Lou Ferringo) and together they team up to stop the new threat that Loki is posing on the earth. Joss Wheldon writes and directs this film based off the Marvel comic book, The Avengers.
DATE: Film debuts May 4, 2012

2. LES MISERABLES. Already stated an Academy Awards contender next year, the film stars Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen and Amanda Seyfried making ANOTHER movie off of this amazing book and Broadway musical. The film (directed by Academy-Award winning director Tom Hooper) is about a man named Jean Valjean (played by Hugh Jackman) who is sent to prison in his opinion unfairly. When he is free, he pretends to be another and becomes the mayor of the town, while a policeman named Javert (played by Russell Crowe) tries to pursue Valjean because of something he did that was illegal. Then, Valjean meets a poor woman named Fantine (played by Anne Hathaway) who is sick and hurt as her husband betrayed her long ago, and their child, who she had to send up to an innkeeper and his wife because she did not have enough money to raise it. Valjean goes to the inn to retrieve the child from the innkeeper (played by Sacha Baron Cohen) and his wife (played by Helena Bonham Carter). The child eventually grows up with Valjean, and she is named Cosette (played by Amanda Seyfried) and ends up falling in love with a boy named Marius Pontmercy (Eddie Redmayne) who is in a student army to fight for freedom. They have made movies of it before, but this is the first one where everyone sings, not through the whole thing, but everyone pretty much has at least one song to sing.

3. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. The Batman legend continues with the 7th installment in the Batman saga. It is directed by Christopher Nolan and is supposed to be a masterpiece, like the most recent Batman, The Dark Knight. The film stars Christian Bale, Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Anne Hathaway, Marion Collitard, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. The film takes place 8 years after the events of the most recent Batman, The Dark Knight, in which Two-Face was born. A new threat comes to Gotham City. The man has a mask and a muffled voice. His name is Bane (played by Tom Hardy). Batman (played by Christian Bale) has to try to stop Bane with his guardian Alfred’s (played by Michael Caine) help. Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Anne Hathaway and Marion Collitard add to an already excellent cast of The Dark Knight, as Aaron Eckhart, Heath Ledger and some others will not be returning.

4. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Spider-Man returns in this year in a reboot, but this time directed by Marc Webb and without Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man/Peter Parker. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Chris Zylka. The film is about teen Peter Parker (played by Andrew Garfield) who’s parents leave him when he is very little. He lives with his aunt and uncle and goes on a search for his parents. Then, when he decides to visit his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy at work, he gets bit by a lab spider and becomes Spider-Man.

5. THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. The film is a prelude to Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and stars Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Christopher Lee, Luke Evans, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen and Ian Holm. The film is about Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and when he is asked by Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to go on an adventure to find the Dragon Ring, on which he runs into many people, including Gollum (Andy Serkis). The film (directed by Academy-Award winning director Peter Jackson) looks to delight.

6. BRAVE. I personally really enjoyed Cars 2, but many others didn’t. Brave could be a come back for Pixar Animation, as Cars 2 did make a lot of money, but was not recognized as solid and good as other Pixar movies (Finding Nemo, Cars, Monsters Inc, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Up, Ratatouille and WALL-E). So, this film is about a reckless princess (played by Kelly McDonald) who wants her freedom, which isn’t being granted.

7. THE LORAX. This Universal Production has a core of very good voice talent (Zac Efron, Taylor Swift and Danny DeVito and Betty White) and the film stars a town with no trees or bushes and it was all plastic when a girl named Audrey (played by Taylor Swift) starts dreaming about trees and she tells a boy, “All I want is a seed to plant a real tree.” The boy, who likes her (played by Zac Efron) gets the seed for her, but also learns the story of how the town became plastic, and the legend of…THE LORAX.

8. A THOUSAND WORDS. This comedy starring Eddie Murphy is about a guy who lies to (everyone!). When he lies to Doctor (played by Cliff Curtis) about getting a book published, the doctor puts a curse on him, which means he has a new tree in his back yard. Every time he says a word, a leaf falls off the tree, and when all the leaves fall of the tree, he dies! So, he has to conserve as many words as possible.

9. MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE’S MOST WANTED. This finishes up the Madagascar trilogy and is about our 4 favorite characters (Marty, Melman, Alex and Gloria) and after a stint in Africa, they try to go back to New York by way of Europe. On the way, they become Europe’s most wanted by a police woman (played by Frances McDormand) who is SUPER tough!
DATE: Debuts June 8, 2012

10. SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN. The film is about a Yemen chief who wants to bring the sport of salmon fishing over to Yemen. He consults a company in the US, who hires a salmon specialist (played by Ewan McGregor) to try to bring salmon to Yemen for salmon-fishing. At first the specialist thinks that it is impossible, but when the news decides to cover the event big time, the specialist has to come through, with his partner from the company (played by Emily Blunt) who he ends up falling in love with.
